Given the lack of known arachnoid-specific promoters at the time, an adenovirus encoding recombinant Cre was injected into the subdural space of mice harboring two copies of floxed Nf2 allele (Nf2flox/flox), driving arachnoid-specific deletion of Nf2. Remarkably, this was sufficient to induce a range of benign meningioma encompassing the transitional, meningothelial, and fibroblastic subtypes, although only a minority of injected mice ultimately developed meningiomas [82]. Here, NF2 is linked to meningioma.
