However, it is worth noting that, although NRG1 rs6994992 has been widely recognized as an important schizophrenia risk variant (Li et al., 2006; Jeremy et al., 2008; Buonanno, 2010), recent studies have also suggested an ethnic difference in the effect of NRG1 rs6994992 on schizophrenia (i.e., the relationship between NRG1 rs6994992 and schizophrenia was mainly observed in the European population, but not in the Han Chinese population) (Zhao et al., 2004; Mostaid et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene NRG1 and schizophrenia.
