The metabolic reprogramming is facilitated by BME through inhibition of (i) key regulatory genes of glycolysis pathway resulting reduction in pyruvate and lactate production as well as glycolysis rate, (ii) key fatty acid synthesis genes, reduction in phospholipids, inactivation of iPLA2, inhibition of lipid raft, and (iii) induction of ER stress and ROS mediated cancer cell death. This evidence concerns the gene PLA2G6 and cancer.
