Necrotic cells swell and release inflammatory factors, such as IL-1β, leading to lytic cell death.37 Pyroptosis is a type of programmed necrosis that depends on GSDME or GSDMD cleavage and is characterized by membrane pore formation, cell bulging, bleb formation, cytolysis, and the release of cytoplasmic content.25 The results of our study indicated that As2O3 induced typical pyroptosis, characterized by large membrane blebs and LDH release from HCC cells. Here, GSDME is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
