In experimental colitis (Souza et al., 2015) and in IBD patients (Vainer et al., 1998; Banks et al., 2003), chemokines (e.g., MIP-1α) were produced at an accelerated rate and were involved in monocytes/macrophages activations and inflammatory immune modulation (Carr et al., 1994; Kostova et al., 2015).
