There is evidence that failure to activate the NLRP3 inflammasome can lead to gut–liver axis derangement, gut dysbiosis, and a worsened phenotype in a mouse model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (Henao-Mejia et al., 2012; Pierantonelli et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
