This is an extreme case of the acceleration experimentally observed for some osteopetrosis-causing mutations [54,59,60]; (iii) ClC-7unc, in which chloride transport is uncoupled from proton counter-transport, rendering ClC-7 a pure chloride conductance with linear voltage-dependence and instantaneous (de)activation [53,54]; (iv) ClC-7ko, the knockout of ClC-7, which represents the complete absence of the antiporter. Here, CLCN7 is linked to osteopetrosis.
