While these authors attributed this on increased expression of several types of adhesion molecules in both, endothelial and tumor cells, in turn leading to increased tumor cell – endothelial cell adhesion and subsequent extravasation of tumor cells, we show here that through the degradation (mediated by ADAM10) and dislocalization of VE-cadherin, irradiation compromises the endothelial barrier function directly. The gene discussed is CDH5; the disease is neoplasm.
