Recently, we demonstrated that the responders to anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy had high baseline frequency of PD-1high CD8+ T cells in tumor tissue, as determined by extensive phenotypic flow cytometry analyses of fresh biopsies obtained from advanced HCC patients before start of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy [52].
