Hyperandrogenism is considered to be a basic characteristic of PCOS (Gunalan et al., 2018[39]; Stein et al., 2016[106]), and is often associated with excessive release of luteinizing hormone (LH) by the pituitary gland and is related with hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance (Liepa et al., 2008[66]; Ehrmann, 2005[26]). This evidence concerns the gene PLOD1 and polycystic ovary syndrome.
