About 23% of ovarian tumors have been associated with hereditary conditions and the genetic abnormalities in about 65–85% of hereditary ovarian carcinomas is the germline mutation in BRCA (breast cancer early onset genes BRCA1 and BRCA2) genes which are essential for DNA repair as well as in maintaining genomic stability and integrity.
