MiR-9-5p targets three genes belonging to Module 2, namely, NOTCH1, GSK3β, and ESR1. Interestingly, upregulation of miR-9-5p and consequent inhibition of the Notch signaling pathway were shown to stimulate neuron differentiation in an APP-overexpressing AD cell model (Li et al., 2017). The gene discussed is ESR1; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
