Since Alzheimer’s disease accompanies the loss of ACh neurons (Fibiger, 1991; Silva et al., 2014), several ChEIs such as donepezil, galantamine, and rivastigmine, which can increase the ACh level by inhibiting cholinesterase, are widely used to treat the cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease. This evidence concerns the gene BCHE and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
