SLC32A1 and epilepsy: Although the gene encoding vGaT (Slc32a1) was not quantified in the present study, diet-induced reductions in transcript levels of genes associated with glutamate synthesis, packaging, and synaptic clearance on presynaptic DG afferents (Figure 8B) suggest that the KD may reduce excitatory afferent drive to CA3, which could confer resilience in aging and epilepsy.
