To avoid systemic comorbidities in AHR-deficient mice, Rothhammer et al. demonstrated that, in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis mouse model, microglia-specific AHR deletion upregulated the expression of pro-inflammatory activities in astrocytes, suggesting that microglial AHR limits pathogenic activities of astrocytes in chronic autoimmune inflammation [23]. This evidence concerns the gene AHR and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.
