BRCA1 and breast cancer: Although disorders of antioxidant defence mechanisms (↓reduced glutathione, ↑superoxide dismutase, ↓glutathione peroxidase) and intensity of oxidative cell damage (↑MDA, ↑protein carbonyl groups, ↑8-OHdG) were observed in the blood serum of patients with BRCA1-dependent breast cancer [6,7,8,30], no data are available on the capacity of antioxidant systems and biomarkers of oxidative stress in the saliva of patients with breast cancer and their relationship with salivary gland function.
