An US-based AASLD survey on the use of albumin in cirrhosis suggested that albumin was mainly employed for preventing post-paracentesis circulatory dysfunction (PPCD) and hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) and treating spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP), HRS, hypotension, refractory ascites, hyponatremia, edema, and hypoalbuminemia [34]. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and hepatorenal syndrome.
