In contrast, treatment with the ASK1 inhibitor selonsertib (in combination with the humanized monoclonal antibody directed against lysyl oxidase‐like molecule 2 simtuzumab) was recently reported to reduce liver fibrosis in a subgroup of patients with manifest NASH and moderate‐to‐severe fibrosis (Loomba et al, 2018), suggesting that ASK1 inhibition may be a useful strategy to halt or partly reverse evolved liver pathologies at least in some patients. This evidence concerns the gene MAP3K5 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
