TP53 and cancer: Rutin is a glycoside from quercetin flavonoid found in plants such as green tea, and apples.7 Rutin has neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, antiproliferative, and anti-oxidative stress effects through inhibiting the lipid peroxidation.8 Rutin stimulates apoptosis in many cancer cell lines such as prostate and HepG2,9 aside reducing Bcl-2 gene and increasing p53 gene expression.8,10 P53, a suppressor gene, regulates the cell cycle and acts as a major anticancer barrier.11 Bcl-2 proto-oncogene inhibits cell apoptosis and p53 activity.12
