Within the context of aggressive forms of breast cancer, Akt2 seems to be responsible for metastasis and invasiveness in advanced stages, suggesting a selective inhibition of Akt2 as a favorable therapeutic strategy.7 A different behavior was reported for lung cancer, in which Akt1 functions as a tumor initiator whereas Akt2 had suppressive characteristics, suggesting an Akt1 selective strategy.8 Here, AKT1 is linked to breast cancer.
