NLRP3 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), a protein that forms amyloid deposits in the pancreas during T2DM, can activate nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain (NACHT), leucine-rich repeat (LRR), and prin domain- (PYD-) containing protein 3 (NLRP3) in causing infiltrated macrophages, generating IL-1β, and reducing β-cell mass [31].
