In our first round of models, in which genetic PCs were not examined, we identified seven CpG sites that significantly predicted onset of MDD at FDR adjusted p < 0.2, corresponding to a nominal p < 0.01, in NR3C1, CRH, CRHR1, and CRHR2. In a second set of analyses, in which we covaried for genetic variation using PCs, we found that these same CpG sites remained significant in the prediction of MDD. Here, CRHR1 is linked to major depressive disorder.
