In the hippocampi and cortexes of AD patients, ciRS-7 downregulation was found to be coupled with an increase in miR-7, which has a known role in inflammatory degeneration, resulting in the downregulation of miR-7 target genes, such as ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2A (UBE2A) [81].
