ILK and hyperinsulinism: In mice with general depletion of ILK, in adulthood, the integrin signaling molecule exhibits hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia with a downregulation in GLUT4 expression, decreasing the insulin sensitivity and AKT phosphorylation at Ser473, suggesting that ILK may be a molecular target and a prognostic biomarker of IR [24] (Figure 1).
