It is well established that the thyroid hormone level is associated with body weight and energy consumption.25, 26, 27 Hyperthyroidism is characterized by increased metabolic rate, weight loss, energy expenditure, reduced circulating cholesterol, enhanced lipid breakdown and gluconeogenesis.28, 29 By comparison, hypothyroidism, which is reduced thyroid hormone release, is correlated with reduced metabolic rate, reduced energy consumption, weight gain, increased cholesterol levels, lipid breakdown and reduced gluconeogenesis.30 Here, TG is linked to hypothyroidism.
