Activation of FoxO1 was detected during lipid deposition in the liver (Kim et al., 2016); activated FoxO1 was also found to lead to an increase in the output of very low-density lipoprotein (triglyceride-rich particles) in the liver, resulting in hypertriglyceridemia (Kim et al., 2011); the expression and activity of FoxO1 were increased in patients with NAFLD and correlated positively with the severity of the disease (Valenti et al., 2008). The gene discussed is FOXO1; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
