The expression of fatty acid transporter proteins FAT, FATP2 and FATP4 in placentas from pregnancies complicated by DM has not been assessed previously, though others have demonstrated increased expression of FATP2 at the basal (fetal-facing) membrane in pregnancies complicated by obesity (defined in that study as BMI > 25)18. This evidence concerns the gene SLC27A4 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
