The strategy was as follows: (i) identification of positively correlated genes in four independent GEO datasets through genome-wide gene expression profiling; (ii) validation of gene expression analysis using the Oncomine and GEO databases; (iii) confirmation of the clinicopathological significance of candidate genes using tissue microarray and clinical outcomes; and (iv) verification of the roles of YAP1 and candidate genes in tumor progression and metastasis in vitro and in vivo.
