CAVIN1 and Familial prostate cancer: From the side of prostate cancer-induced bone metastases, and consistent with their osteosclerotic features, Karlsson et al. showed that EVs from prostate cancer cells decrease fusion and differentiation of osteoclast precursors [80], while a previous study demonstrated that PC3 prostate derived EVs stimulate osteoblast proliferation as well as osteoclast differentiation, the latter effect being attenuated when tumour cells are transfected with a plasmid carrying cavin-1, thus pointing at this molecule as a factor that inhibits prostate cancer metastasis to bone [81].
