As far as the CaMKII/mtCU axis role in heart failure is concerned, although CaMKII has been shown to cause heart failure through the mtCU activation and mPTP opening leading to cardiomyocyte death [30], contradictory data about the direct regulation of mtCU by CaMKII [30,31,77] do not allow us to make unambiguous conclusions at this point until further investigation.
