Studies with pictures of blast vacuolization in bone marrow smears of AML patients have been published by Tang et al. in myeloid neoplasms (AML and MDS) with MLL gene amplification [6] and twice in AML patients with tetraploidy or near-tetraploidy, again with no further information [7, 8]. The gene discussed is KMT2A; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
