Bmp2-/+ and Bmp7R-GFlag/+ mice were indistinguishable from wild type littermates (Figure 5A–C), whereas all (n = 10) E14.5 Bmp2-/+;Bmp7R-GFlag/+ embryos showed peripheral edema (Figure 5D–E,D'–E', arrowheads) along with defects in ventral body wall closure that ranged from umbilical hernia (Figure 5E, arrow, n = 4) to omphalocele, in which the liver and other visceral organs were externalized (Figure 5D,D', arrows, n = 6).
