Further investigations revealed that the up-regulation of mesenchymal markers (including N-cadherin, vimentin, and fibronectin), the down-regulation of epithelial markers (including E-cadherin and laminin), the altered expression of nuclear transcription factors (including Snail, Slug, ZEB1/2, and Twist1/2), and the rearrangement of cytoskeleton proteins (including occluding and ZO-1) are involved in tumor cells undergoing EMT (Peinado et al., 2007; Zhu et al., 2013).
