MS is also associated with disruptions in the normal development of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis, such as the up-regulation of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) gene expression in the paraventricular nucleus, the downregulation of the CRH receptor in the anterior pituitary, and the downregulation of the hippocampal glucocorticoid receptor (GR; Marco et al., 2010; Vetulani, 2013). The gene discussed is NR3C1; the disease is myeloid sarcoma.
