FABP4 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Piccinin et al. (2019) demonstrated that the administration of PGC1, a PPARγ activator, was able to reduce the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma. The enhanced invasion and migration of colorectal cancer cells promoted by the microRNA-11 was reverted by the increase of PPARγ expression induced by Fatty Acid Binding Protein 4 (FABP4) activation (Zhao et al., 2019). In fact, it was previously shown that the inhibition of the oncogenic Src culminated in the enhancement of the axis FABP4/PPARγ, working as tumour repressor (Hua et al., 2019).
