Tauopathy is currently a collective designation of diseases, such as AD, Pick's disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration, in which abnormal accumulation of phosphorylated tau (p-tau) protein in cell bodies is considered to be important in pathogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Pick disease.
