In line with the role of S100B in regulating stemness of ovarian cancer stem-like cells [45, 46], when knocking down S100B, Sca-1+ progenitor cells within the media and neointimal lost the progenitor cell traits and acquired more contractile phenotypes of VSMCs including α-SMA, leading to the reduction of neointimal area and thickness. The gene discussed is ACTA1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
