Several genes, including LIM homeobox transcription factor 1α (LMX1A), sex-determining region Y-box 1 (SOX1), and zinc finger protein 177 (ZNF177) were previously identified to be methylated in a high fraction of cancers, and the methylations of genes alone or in combination were shown to be potential biomarkers for cancers [13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24].
