AD patients suffer from severe pruritus due to a variety of pruritogens like histamine, cytokines like thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), IL-31, IL-4, IL-13, or neuropeptides and abnormal extension of sensory nerves into the epidermis due to the increased expression of nerve growth factor or artemin or to the decreased expression of semaphorin 3A [2]. This evidence concerns the gene IL31 and Alzheimer disease.
