One of the key events during the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma is the loss of expression of master genes of epithelial/hepatocyte differentiation, such as HNF4α and HNF1α, that play a pivotal role in the restraint of inflammation, fibrosis, and EMT (Yue et al., 2010; Hatziapostolou et al., 2011; Pelletier et al., 2011; Santangelo et al., 2011; Qian et al., 2015). This evidence concerns the gene HNF1A and hepatocellular carcinoma.
