Given the key role of endoglin in the vascular system, one of the reasons for choosing galectin-3 was its widely reported involvement in cardiovascular disease, including cardiac fibrosis and inflammation, pathological angiogenesis, aortic stenosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm, endothelial dysfunction, cardiovascular remodeling or hypertension [75,76,77,78,79,80].
