Consistent with our study findings, previous work has shown transgenic Glo1 overexpression reduces production of methylglyoxal-H1 (a principal methylglyoxal AGE) after myocardial infarction 46, increases peri-infarct neovascularization and prevents the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy 48.
