The explanation for the association of higher mortality rate with low levels of vitamin D may be due to the endothelial or immune cell dysfunction and impaired glucose and calcium metabolism accompanied with low levels of vitamin D. Contrary to previous trials, we didn’t find any significant correlation between serum levels of albumin and vitamin D deficiency (35) which may be due to the economic status and low levels of medical care of our patients. Here, ALB is linked to vitamin D deficiency.
