Disruption of Abi1 expression in the mouse leads to prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) with high penetrance in all lobes, and loss of Abi1 is associated with downregulation of E-cadherin, which together with the PIN phenotype suggests a role of Abi1 in prostate tumor initiation [38].
