PVALB and schizophrenia: So far, several post-mortem studies have examined parvalbumin interneurons in patients with schizophrenia, though the findings have not all been consistent (Chung et al. 2016a; Gonzalez-Burgos et al. 2015) with some early studies showing decreases in parvalbumin interneuron density in schizophrenia (Beasley and Reynolds 1997; Reynolds et al. 2002) whilst others failed to find significant differences between patients and controls (Enwright et al. 2016; Hashimoto et al. 2003; Woo et al. 1997).
