The HAC/dGFP-HTI assay was used to screen a siRNA library of human protein kinases and identified five new candidate CIN genes, that is, PINK1, TRIO, IRAK1, PNCK, and TAOK1, knockdown of which leads to elevated frequencies of binucleated cells with micronuclei and chromatin bridges (both measures of genome damage and chromosome instability). The gene discussed is PINK1; the disease is cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia.
