Among the molecular pathways involved in liver regeneration, IL-6 and IL-22 produced by activated natural killer (NK) and T cells in the liver induce activation of the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) [35,36], while interferon-γ (IFN-γ) produced by B and T cells activates STAT1, inhibiting liver fibrosis and regeneration [37,38].
