In the current study, topical application of butyric acid markedly decreases skin ulceration and epidermal thickness from UVB exposure compared to the control mice skin applied with H2O. In line with the anti-inflammatory activity of butyric acid, a significant reduction in IL-6 level was detected both in keratinocytes and in mice skin exposed to prolonged UVB, indicating its potential use as an agent to prevent inflammation in chronic UVB exposed skin. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is Skin ulcer.
