On the contrary, anakinra therapy did not show any effect in participants with type 1 diabetes (T1D), probably because the pancreatic insulitis in T1D is mainly driven by an autoimmune-mediated process, rather than by an autoinflammatory process, as suggested in T2D, thereby not supporting the benefits of IL-1 inhibition in T1D [5,17].
