PCSK9 and infection: Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection1 and is present in 35% of deaths that occur in US hospitals.2 There are no specific treatments for sepsis; management consists of cardiorespiratory resuscitation and treatment of infection.3 Studies suggest that drugs that inhibit the PCSK9 gene could have potential as a new treatment for sepsis.4,5,6,7
